Stress Solutions for the Workplace

Revised: August 31, 2009

A deflated balloon is not that much fun – true, it is totally distressed but it is also lifeless, useless and not fulfilling its potential. Blow it up to an optimum amount of stress and it has life, energy, it can engage in challenges and it spreads joy to those it interacts with. If you keep blowing it up however, at some point the stress will be too much and it will burst – once again it is lifeless and useless and now has no more potential without major sticky tape or medical intervention.

What stage of inflation does your life mirror at work – exhausted, flat, without energy, ready, buoyant and full of potential or is it about to explode, too full, stretched to capacity and with a fear that if someone let the air out suddenly, you would fly screaming around the room uncontrollably. Keep stress under control:
Take a stand against overscheduling – be realistic

Watch what you’re thinking – your outlook, attitude and thoughts influence the way you see things. A healthy dose of optimism can help you make the best of stressful circumstances

Solve the little problems – learning to solve everyday problems can give you a sense of control and builds the inner confidence to move on to life’s bigger ones.

Learn to relax – create a sense of well-being & calm

Treat your body well – regular exercise helps people manage stress

Eat well – help your body get the right fuel to function at its best

Avoid needless perfection – expecting others to be perfect can add to your stress level too!

Believe in yourself, be sure to breathe and let a little stress motivate you into positive action to reach your goals.

The Stress Solutions@Work programme looks at the quality of your life, the types of stress you experience, the good, the bad and the ugly. It highlights the stress signals and more importantly where they have come from emotionally, and it shows ways in which you can take the pressure off slowly, to bring more control, balance, health and happiness into your work performance and your life.

“We are not here just to survive and live long… we are here to live and know life in its multi dimensions, to know life in its richness in all its variety”.
